QuarterLens Valuation Methodology

How QuarterLens structures DCF worksheets, updates assumptions and presents uncertainty.

Model selection

Non-financial businesses are generally approached through FCFF and enterprise value. Financial companies require equity-focused methods such as dividend discount or excess-return models because debt is part of operations.

Sources and updates

Models prioritize company filings, quarterly results, annual reports, investor presentations and management commentary. Worksheets are refreshed after material results when source information is available.

Core assumptions

Forecasts connect revenue growth, operating margins, taxes, reinvestment and risk. Discount rates should be currency-consistent. Terminal assumptions should describe a mature business and include the reinvestment needed for stable growth.

Reverse DCF and scenarios

Reverse DCF is used to surface expectations implied by market price. Scenario and sensitivity analysis are used because one point estimate cannot represent the full uncertainty.

Quality checks

Accounting-quality checks cover cash conversion, revenue recognition, recurring adjustments, capitalized costs, acquisitions and other potential financial shenanigans. Every model can still contain errors and should be independently checked.
